LIL’ STARS ASTRONOMY PROGRAM

Saturday, January 4 |10am, 11am | $4 per person | ages 3-8

Let your little one discover outer space through the views of the stars and planets, stories, crafts or song. Give your child a special nighttime experience during the day! Programs focus on a different theme each month- from colors of stars, to the stories of the constellations, to the seasonal changes in the sky. All children must be accompanied by a ticketed adults. Preregister to secure your seats. No late seating. 

NEW YEAR NATURE HIKE & CIDER SIPPING

Robinson Nature Center: 6692 Cedar Lane, Columbia 21044
Saturday, January 4 | 2:30-4:30pm | $9 per person | ages 6+

Join a naturalist for a guided winter hike during which you can try a range of activities to help your family stay moving and entertained during the cold weeks ahead. We'll head back inside to brew and enjoy kid-friendly wassail (mulled cider) to help take the chill out of winter! Children must be accompanied by a registered adult.

SNOWFLAKE BALL FOR DADS & DAUGHTERS

Saturday January 11 | 5:30-7:30pm | $40 members/$50 nonmembers | 4-12

Shake, rock and roll the winter blues away. Dads (or special adult) and daughters, enjoy refreshments, live DJ, dancing, games, crafts, and ice cream sundae bar. Fee includes a photo of each couple to take home. Inclement weather date is January 25. Preregistration required. Info: 410-313-4840.

SATURDAY PUPPET THEATER

Saturday January 11 | 10-10:30am, 11-11:30 | $5 per person | ages 2+

Join us for nature-themed puppet theater presentations at the Robinson Nature Center! Each puppet show portrays a different nature story. After the puppet show, create a simple craft to take home. This week’s show is Penguins Don’t Live in Maryland.

FIRST SATURDAY IN DOWNTOWN FREDERICK

The first Saturday of each month downtown comes alive with on-the-street entertainment, late-night shopping and dining and something for everyone to enjoy. While you’re here, take advantage of the FREE First Saturday Trolley, which circulates downtown between 3-9PM each First Saturday. Each season, First Saturday features a unique theme that celebrates a different aspect of Downtown Frederick’s eclectic vibe. SPRING (March, April & May) highlights the unique architecture and spaces throughout downtown.

HARBOR POINT ICE FESTIVAL 2020

Central Plaza in Harbor Point will come alive for the Ice Festival on Saturday, January 11, 2020! The plaza will be transformed into a magical winter wonderland with ice sculptures lining the walkways, DJ's, food vendors, family activities, and more! Watch the excitement as award-winning ice sculptors use chainsaws and chisels to create spectacular ice sculptures.

Enjoy  Afternoon Tea in the stately Belmont Manor, built in 1738. Your taste buds will be tempted with a bottomless pot of tea, a Manor scone served with clotted cream and jam, tea savories, and a delectable assortment of desserts. After taking tea, we invite you to take a self-guided tour of the Manor. Seating is communal.

Join Erin from ECLetters for a fun afternoon  creating your own hand lettered welcome mat! All supplies will be provided and you'll leave the class with your very own personalized door mat. You can choose the word or phrase of your choice to put on your mat.

GIVE IT A SPIN: ONE DAY POTTERY CLASS

Have you always wanted to try your hand at the potter’s wheel? Then this wheel-throwing workshop is for you! Learn methods for centering clay and throwing bowl and cylinder forms. Enjoy learning how to decorate finished pieces using commercial underglazes.This workshop provides a great way to spend an afternoon with your friends. Feel free to bring your own snacks and beverages. Please allow two weeks for the drying and firing of finished works.
