5 Ways to Celebrate National Houseplant Appreciation Day

The holidays may be over, but there is still much celebrating to be done. Today in fact is National Houseplant Appreciation Day! So let’s spread some gratitude for all the benefits that houseplants bring to us.

In addition to improving air quality, and being a great complement to home decor, these little (or big) buddies make wonderful roommates! They are quiet, easy to care for, and fun to look at! Today is all about celebrating these beauties, here are 5 ways you can show your appreciation:

1. Get a new plant

What better way to celebrate then adding a new friend to your houseplant family? Hit up your local plant or home improvement store and snag a philodendron or succulent. If you don’t have time to stop and pick up a new plant, don’t fret! You can have one delivered to your door with just a few clicks, just head on over to Amazon.

2. Name your plants

If you haven’t named your leafy friends, today is the best day to do it! Giving your plants names allows you to be more connected and committed to providing them care. If you’re struggling with what to call them, try figuring out what kind of plant they are , and then combine that with a word that describes something unique about that plant. Or you could name them after the cast members of your favorite show, a band you like…the possibilities are endless.

3. Play music for them

I’m sure you’ve heard that plants respond well to talking and singing, but they also love music. They love to feel the beat and absorb the vibrations from the sound waves. Get your groove on with a plant-friendly playlist to help them grow faster and stronger.

4. Buy new pots

A pot to a plant is like shoes to your feet. And who doesn’t love a new pair of shoes? I know I do. The web is full of stylish (and affordable) planter options that will upgrade you and your plant’s home.

5. Special snack

Instead of cake, why not treat your houseplants to some delicious plant food? Adding a couple of drops of formula or giving them a plant food spike will energize and uplift them on their special day.
